SFA

Sunnyside Elementary has an active Sunnyside Family Association (S.F.A.) that supports our varied literacy initiatives. We have semi-formal meetings six times each year to plan activities that will benefit our children. Fundraising initiatives that are SFA sponsored are limited to two each year; our focus is giving our children the "extras" of a good education. Several activities are held to encourage and promote parental involvement at Sunnyside:

  • Candlelight Holiday Luncheon
  • Doughnut for Dads and Muffins for May (annual family breakfasts)
  • Thematic Unit Celebrations
  • Sunnyside Singers and Sunnyside Symphony Programs
  • Book Fairs and Read Across America
  • The Sunnyside Student Assistance Team has initiated a new teacherfast), family, administrator, and community group called TIES (Together in Educational success.) The goal of this group is to share information, research-based strategies, and techniques to better support our support our students at school and at home. We host quarterly meetings addressing topics of concern to all participants. We have invited community, school, and parent speakers to facilitate our discussions.

Goals of the SFA

  • To raise funds to provide additional equipment, materials, and programs to enhance our children's educational experience.
  • To promote parent-teacher cooperation and encourage parent and community participation in school activities and programs.
  • To promote the welfare of the students.
  • To foster closer relationships between the home and the school.
  • To inform and involve parents regarding the educational program at Sunnyside Elementary School and Lawrence Township.
