The School Board of the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township unanimously approved the appointment of Mrs. Tierney Anderson to the position of Director of Elementary Education. Mrs. Anderson will officially transition to this new role January 1, 2021 from that of Principal at Sunnyside Elementary School in the MSD of Lawrence Township, where she has served as building leader since October of 2014. Before that time, she served as the Assistant Principal at Sunnyside Elementary School. Her teaching experience was at both the elementary and middle school levels in the MSD of Warren Township and Jackson Public Schools in Jackson, Mississippi.
According to Superintendent, Dr. Shawn Smith, “The Director of Elementary Education supports our commitment to academic excellence as it pertains to elementary curriculum and instruction, professional development, and data.” He adds, “Mrs. Anderson’s track record of instructional leadership and commitment to student achievement make her an outstanding fit for this position.”
Mrs. Anderson earned her Bachelors of Science (2002), Masters of Science (2005), and Specialist in Elementary Education certification (2007) from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. She earned her Masters of Science in Education Administration from Butler University in 2010. She is a doctoral candidate at Indiana State University and anticipates graduating in May of 2021.
Regarding her new position, Anderson shares, “It is truly an honor to be considered for such an important position. I look forward to utilizing my experience to expand my influence beyond Sunnyside Elementary to all eleven elementary school.” She adds, “I look forward to working with the elementary principals and am extremely proud continue to grow the legacy of greatness within Lawrence Township schools.”
